As much as it's being emphasized that there is no justifiable reason to Gender based violence,I believe that, some perpetrators of GBV act out of ignorance and there are others who have been groomed to see women as objects because of the patriarchal systems in most of our communities. Such men make up a reasonable percentage of the male population as such the need for them to be properly educated on how they ought to treat women and girls.
As a media practitioner,I make it a commitment to put at the disposal of my audience, content that relate to GBV and how it affects its victims.
This could be through news reports or radio talk shows that I anchor, where I bring on board Gender activists and counsellors to share their experiences and stories of survivors.
By talking about GBV on the media,I am certain that the message reaches many people who get the right orientation as to how they relate with women. In some instances,my guests are given the latitude to highlight the rights of women and girls and the legal implications if they are trampled upon.
I long to see the silence against GBV broken because it's a major battle in the war against Gender based violence.
