The world hasn't changed as much as you think!

The world needs what you’ve got but we were taught to not stand up and share it.

Don’t believe me? Take a look at these pictures, this is what comes up when you google ‘boys Lego’ and ‘girls Lego’. Girls are all fun and they’re pink and they’re shopping and they’re talking. The boys are going on adventures or doing serious things.

I kid you not, we think we have come so far but we really haven’t, we really haven’t been taught that we are capable of more and that holds us back from what we need to get out there and do in the world.

All the way back in 2014 a girl named Charlotte wrote an open letter to Lego saying “I went to the store and saw Lego in two sections, pink for girls and blue for the boys, all the girls did was sit at home, go to the beach and shop, they had no jobs, but the boys went on adventures, worked to save people, had jobs and even swam with sharks, I want to you make Lego girl people and let them go on adventures and have fun okay”.

Now that sounds like a cute open letter, right? But did Lego take any notice? No, because we are barely far on from 2014 and we are still seeing the same thing. Now it might seem completely harmless “Oh Michelle it’s just play and it’s just toys” but what we expose our children to informs their beliefs. It forms their beliefs about themselves. If girls only see pictures of themselves and have toys that shows them having fun and being frivolous then when they have got something serious to say to the world when they want to change the fucking world like we do, how are they going to have the confidence to do it when there is an underlying current of “girls don’t actually do that”.

So, what am I doing about it apart from showing you pictures of Lego? Well today I am making something for women so they can get out there and be invited to speak on speaking platforms. We are going to start with podcasts because podcasts are a really easy and safe way, especially for introverts, to get out there and start spreading their message. Now, it’s quite difficult to get onto podcasts in the beginning but of course I have some cheat-y ways to share with you and I’m going to show you that over an 8-week intensive which is going to be amazing!
