Editing midwives

Hi all,

I have been getting quite a few stories from some of the women in my cohorts, the only problem (besides slow response, connection time) I have encountered is grammar, syntax errors. How have you all been handling the grammar, have you been encouraging the women to take a more detailed look at what they have written, have you fixed it for them or have you been telling them how to fix it? I haven't gotten that far as of yet, but I was thinking of pointing it out at the end when they have elaborated enough or have been clear and precise about the story or situation they are relating. Anyone else finding a better way to handle that aspect of the editing? Besides that a couple of the pieces I have encountered have been personal recounting but rather vague diatribe. I have been urging my cohort to relate personal events that talks of the women in their communities and to elaborate on the stories that are relevant. Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Milsgra (not sure it's your official name sorry!),

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had in fact a similar one. I translated some texts and I as well found some grammar mistakes and generic descriptions. For the first I actually translated an edited version, trying to correct the mistakes since the pieces are going directly to the Campaign and I doubt there will be additional editing.

For the stories I also suggested to go a little bit more personal but haven't had major feedbacks about that. I wonder what the others did ... Did you manage to go forward with the translations?

Have you seen how the world puls live is going on?

Best, Bea

Thank you for responding and sorry for the delayed response. I tried very hard to put myself in the context and the culture and given the cultural landscape I did my best to convey the message and to remain faithful to the initial posting as possible.
