Every little helps

James is an eight year old and the last child of a family of four which includes
his elder brother and his parents. It is easy to assume that such a small family
should not have any trouble taking care of their daily needs. Unfortunately, this
is not the case. Like many other families in this country, they barely get a dollar
a day and when it comes to paying school fees, if they don't succeed to get a
small loan from friends, then one of the boys have to stay at home. This is exactly
what happened to James this academic year. He had to stay at home for his
brother to continue. Imagine for a moment what goes through his mind when he
sees his friends going to school.

At the same time that James is at home because of probably a few dollars, you and
i are in the shops buying articles we most often could do without. Then again, most
of these articles are more expensive than the amount needed to send James to
school. If only we could forgo some of these and lend a helping hand. Aid must not
come from an international organisation or a big organisation. As women and people
hoping for a positive change, let's start by looking in our immediate surroundings.
There is so much we can do with the little we have.
