Grant to Establish a Women's Entrepreneurial Center in Laos

TheU.S. Department of State Bureau of East Asia Pacific Affairs (EAP)announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for a project to promote women's entrepreneurship, as part of the Lower Mekong Initiative. The grantee will establish a physicalwomen's entrepreneurial center in Vientiane, Laos. The Center will provide a safe space for female would-be entrepreneurs and business owners from the formal and informal sectors to receive training, access resources, and connect to a local network of mentors that can provide them real-time, tailored feedback. The Center will offer women business owners and prospective entrepreneurs ongoing support, advice, resources, and the environment needed to transform their businesses, and in turn create jobs and strengthen local and national economies to provide resources to overcome the challenges women business-owners face. Although the center will be based in Vientiane, the programs at the Center could incorporate women entrepreneurs from other parts of Laos.Estimated total funding is $445,500, with an award floor of $200,000.

Eligible Applicants include:

  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • Public and State-controlled institutions of higher education
  • Private institutions of higher education
  • Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education

Grant applications will be accepted betweenApril 10 and June 10, 2016.
