CHANGE CAPITALIST PATRIARCHY ALLEVIATE WOMEN VIOLENCE

Suddenly the incident of sexual violence and rape in Bangladesh is increased to alarming frequency and with impunity of course. A national women right organization and corroborated by police sources revealed that during the last 4 years 3000 women and children fell victims to sexual violence and 500 women were murdered after rape. Extra threateningly and unable to bear humiliation, 50 women including school going girls committed suicide after rape and or sexual violence.

Sexual violence of women is as old as patriarchy. But it has intensified and become more pervasive in the recent past. It has taken on more brutal forms. With the reference of policemen UNO reports of 65 countries that about 500000 rape cases registered every year while only the policeman of South Africa reported the number of rape cases there about 500000.

Overall numbers of good laws have been legislated in Bangladesh next to violence of woman as well as rape included death sentence against the rapists. In addition, the government in pursuance of High Court guidelines in 2009 proposes to frame new laws to restrain violence on women and children. Though it is reflected utmost commitment of the government of Bangladesh towards formation of more effective legal rules. But this commitment will get light “if” proper implementation followed the existing laws and the laws sustain till justice is done for every one of our daughters, sisters and friends whenever has been violated. It must make sure laws are working and changed if needed. So justice is not indefinable for victims of sexual violence. People remain with hope that sexual violence will never be an exercise in black wit.

Reality is, by every passing day, many barbarous incidents come to know with no counteractive trial at sight. Stories of rape victims being subjected to trauma humiliation even suicide is over and over again happened. Adding with killing the victim and or eye witness of incident after rape/gang rape by the rapists are frequently occur to erase the last traces of their criminality. Marjina, Simi, Fahima Indrani, Mahima, and many known and unknown of Bangladesh, took remedy with ending their lives instead of suffering humiliation, isolation and twisting subsistence day in and day out. Unfortunately, the victims did not know it’s never a silent protest against a male dominated and corrupt society where that woman only identifies as the one and only wrongdoer. In Bangladesh medical records make known that with about 500 rape victims that hospitals treated in the last 4 years, only 2 cases went up to the court for trial. Shockingly, because of improper action of police and lack of appropriate legal supports and medical test to victims, such brutal criminal actions go unabated.

A significant question mark that puzzle the sensible citizens is, how can be the perpetrators be so encouraged to act so continuously and uncontrollably? I don't know the answer is clear. Frankly speaking, laws are functioning in the country on a simple principle like commodities; law is one way or another negotiable and mostly depends on your pocket as well as social status and your connections to upstairs. Once the people aware each other ‘crime does not pay, so don’t do it’, a time came when they said ‘crime pays but there is no insurance’ now can we easily say ‘crime pays and there is insurance’. There are inadequate and inequal opportunities to all class people in front of existing laws. Consequently, there is no effective prevention for the crimes committed and therefore all these evil crimes are reaching to such alarming frequency.

Aftermath the shameful incident of DAMINI (Daughter of India) gang rape in Delhi India, people of all class and profession assembled under one umbrella not only for exemplary punishment of 6 rapists rather pledge their supports and launch movement to awake up everybody to root out the causes of speedy spreading brutality to women and to establishment of social and human morality, civilized pattern and norms of the society besides confirmation of commendable punishment of the criminals.

In the rich countries, brutal violence to women is present although the number is little and sufficient laws working appropriate there to save girls and women from the violent behavior of men. Consequently, perhaps a law of strict punishment against sexual violence of women is not only prevention. In Bangladesh, now-a-days, women and befriend of victim girls or women are engaged herself for abetting the gang rape and to handing over the victim to the rapists. So everybody should think where are the weaknesses that must be finding out right ways of alleviation of violence incidents of women so that women are not being assaulted, harassed and imperfectly rough treated because of gender.

The rape cases of every age (minor girls, adolescent, and women) and the overall violence of women are frighteningly increasing since the economy growth rate is improving in the country. At present the average rate of income of people is developing and the number of cruel behaviour to women increasing parallel. Are there being a mutual linkage in between the present ways of unjust and unfair growth of economy and the growth of sadistic crimes against women. The total economic development of Bangladesh begins with violence against women by discounting the contribution of women into the overall economy growth. Truth is, women are contributing endlessly at every production sectors e.g. industries mainly garments, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, food preparation and preservation, overseas employment, etc. The views of economic experts very nearly include the contribution of women in the national economy growth. It’s intensifying the running patriarchal economic calculation and system as well. By this overview the transformation of long-lasting value into disvalue, labour into non-labour, knowledge into non-knowledge as people achieved and they rules our life unfortunately. A strong capitalist patriarchy is restricting to add the economic value of women’s wealth, everyday’s contribution and works into existing market economy of the country. In adding with the core principle of capitalist patriarchy economic is based on the commodification of everything including women where everything has a price and nothing has value. It is hidden fueling of increasing crimes against women. As the approach of commodification, women and children (mainly girls) set free by economic neoliberalization, degrades social values, deepens patriarchy and intensifies brutal violence against women and minor girls even.

In the region to bring the peoples’ eyes recently into other ways, violent discussions and debates on rape issue is continuing like what women should wear to avoid rape or how long a woman should stay out at night etc. Though women cannot avoid getting raped even wearing a BURKA (a long gown which cover woman’s whole body) and not go out home at night. On the other hand, some are blamed the film media for propagating where men feel they can get away with sexually harassing and or raping a woman. But it’s not fair and to justified cause. Mostly man’s behavior comes out vulgar to fill up his sex thrust. So, it’s burning needs to change the man’s mind-set of sex culture and outlook towards women.

We are raising our voices for exemplary punishment of all rapists but only hard-hitting implementation of laws might not be alleviate the trafficking, harassment, sexual abuse, eve teasing, and rape of women on permanent basis rather will apparently make a change then the present picture. Because of the problem is quite deep rooted of capitalist patriarchy that increasing degradation of socio-cultural values of men and women are easy victim of men unfortunately.
