Women in 2014
Jan 21, 2015
First story
Every day i switch on the television an seeing and hearing of new technologies that have been developed. It seems like technology is ever moving forward but i have also observed that a lot of women are not exactly 'rolling with the punches'. It would be absolutely mind boggling for me if i can see this change.
In Zambia, in as much as women are now taking up more roles though to be men's, i still see very few women embracing Information Technology. I see very few women using IT to better their lives and frankly have a little fun! I iam a woman in IT and i absolutely love it. I know that with my knowledge i can nlt only have fun but use my skills to get great jobs. I have a sense of EMPOWERMENT and not ENTITLEMENT with the new gift technology has given to me. People can hear me better because i have THIS at my disposal. Technology does not have to be mundane, it can be wonderful, fun, innovative.
That is why i co-founded Asikana Network. To create a safe haven such as myself to embrace IT. To exchange ideas and be a voice to be heard by women for once. We will no longer sit in the background and wait to be saved from the unknown. We will speak out, we will not apologise for it, and we will continue to be women of immaculate excellence.
