Gender balance

Mark Zuckerberg has two daughters.

Barack Obama has two daughters.

Kobe Bryant has four daughters.

I heard that Dangote doesn't have a son.

These are all great men who didn't get themselves and spouses worked-up over male children.

With or without male children, they have impacted humanity in their different ways and have marked their names in history. They will be remembered long after they are gone for what they did and NOT for having male children.what is it you are doing today that you will be remembered for?

But one UNKNOWN man in one african village somewhere  with no achievement whatsoever is frustrating his wife for not having male children.

He is desperately looking for a male child to carry on his non-existent legacy and poverty-stricken name.

sometimes let's just teach these men to know that a child remains a child.such acts and expectations always lead to gender based violence.we can share the knowledge of love for one and all to conquer this notion.Women should not be made to suffer because they could not bring forth a particular sex.share the same love to the children you have.

Hi Mercy,
Thank you for raising this. The value that men put on themselves over women is at the root of this violence toward women. Strong evidence that not all men do this, sadly still in the minority. I agree, teaching is the way to change. For the many men who value only men, I hope men who value women will join us and teach men to value women as we deserve.

a male child or a female child... they should be given love, rights to live and given an education... Thanks, Mercy for expressing this. I hope that men realize things...

Oh dear Mercy,

What an eye opening post? I didn't even know Mark Z had only daughters. I really wonder our men in Africa make such a fuss about the gender of a child.
I mean valiant people like Oprah, Hilary, Michelle, Maya Angelou were not male children and yet they have impacted the world in tremendous ways.
I appreciate your writing, keep it coming dear
Hugs
Marie

Hello, Mercy,

It's nice meeting you! Welcome to World Pulse! You've delivered your point well, that men of influence having daughters are proud to be Girl Dads, while unknown men, not just in Africa, but in many corners of the world, want boys to carry their names. Women nowadays can already have that option of retaining her maiden name even if they choose marriage.

Thank you for raising your voice on this issue.

Thanks for sharing dear Mercy. It is quite sad to see the importance placed on males over females by our African parents. Like you said education them on this topic is the best way to change

As the saying goes "What a man can do a woman can so better" There is no difference and more over is it not the seed he planted that came forth? Its so frustrating sometimes when our African men begin to place demands on the woman for a male child as though she is to go and get it from a store. Let train our daughters to be blood strong, independent and educated. Welcome to world pulse Mercy.
