The Internet Keeps us closely connected every where we go

The importance of the internet cannot be overemphasized. When I look back I recall how reluctant I was to engage in online activities because I was made to believe that only fraudulent people or students who have assignments to do online. After much persuasion from friends to join Facebook, I did and I saw it was interesting. Gradually I began to familiarize with Facebook and Facebook Apps, I started to enjoy the Facebook games, always looking forward to work on my online farm and building online cities. I then saw that groups can be created and I could discus and share about my passion. I then created a Facebook group for my NGO IEVAWC- Initiative for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Children, and I started to enjoying working online, creating awareness, educating and enlightening the people on the dangers and effects of gender violence in the society and on the individual. Then I started to see similar groups talking about same issues and I connected with them, it was through connecting with the various women groups that I came across world pulse. I was excited I found a platform to raise my voice and I felt heard. I was inspired to do more. And till this moment I am taking advantage of the web to promote myself and my work and to seek for more partnerships and collaborations. I must say that it has been very successful so far. I have also continued to connect with more women from different countries in world pulse. My excitement level was raised when I met one on one with my world pulse sisters in Abuja, Nigeria at the A4AI event. I was very happy. Though we were meeting for the first time but it felt like we've known each other for years because the internet kept us closely connected. The internet is the only place where you can be at more than one places at the same time, engage in more than one activity at the same time. Last week I was in Lagos, Nigeria for some personal business and I visited one of my World Pulse sisters Celine Osukwu. It was a wonderful meeting; world pulse gave us the opportunity to know each other, and to work closely by partnering together. We discussed a lot of issues and the way forward. It was indeed a wonderful meeting and we are not stopping there, we will continue to stay close online and offline.
