Good for her - I hope people of every religion follow her example!

I agree. Hopefully, Taraneh Alidoosti's decision as should others who have been invited to this year's Oscars or others in general comes from a place of not wanting to condone injustice and serious violations of human rights, in the case of Trump's ban, the violations of all those from the 7 countries the ban applies to. Taraneh's statement on her Twitter account, "Trump's visa ban for Iranians is racist. Whether this will include a cultural event or not, I won't attend the #Academy Awards 2017 in protest." It would have been more inclusive I think if she would have stated on Twitter, "Trump's visa ban for the individuals of the 7 countries it applies to (and if she wanted to say...including Iran for whatever particulars) is racist." In my opinion, her statement has a nationalistic slant to it. Perhaps, she did not intend to or it was not her intention to solely mention Iran. It's very possible that she also believes Trump's visa ban for people of the other 6 countries is racist but did not mention it here in her statement. God knows best. In thinking about it, it does make me wonder if she would have attended the Oscars if Iran was not one of the 7 countries. Regardless, I respect her decision to not attend because of Trump's ban.

Trump's ban, as far as I'm concerned is just as much if not more a ban against justice, equality, and human rights as it is a ban against members of a particular faith in this particular case the citizens of the 7 countries the ban applies to being mostly followers of Islam. The truth is, however, Islam is seriously under attack and many of those who are committed to the faith of Islam are being targeted because of their choice to believe and practice their religion as they choose, that is, simply because they have chosen to exert their right of freedom of religion.

Agree completely Najwa. Trump's proclamations are against ALL of us, not just one religion or culture.
