Propaganda vs Pandemic

I just saw this in my email inbox and have copied and pasted it here. It was sent and received not in my box labeled "focus", the one I regularly check but in my box labeled "other".

Dear Najwa ,

Tomorrow, the Saudi dictatorship will host a virtual G20 summit of world leaders to discuss the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

We need international dialogue to stop this pandemic. But the Saudi dictatorship, which is among the most repressive regimes in the world, is the wrong choice to play host to this forum:

The Saudi dictatorship silences its critics, preventing whistleblowers from criticizing the government’s behavior.

The Saudi ruling family may actually be making the Coronavirus pandemic even worse by creating a humanitarian crisis through its war in Yemen.

In fact, March 25 marks the five-year anniversary of the Saudi-led war in Yemen, one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Reports count the death toll of the war at well over 100,000, including tens of thousands of civilians. Millions of children have been left malnourished, and without food assistance, over twenty million people would face hunger, according to the World Food Programme. The country’s infrastructure has been completely decimated, and as a result, Yemen stands on the brink of a massive COVID-19 outbreak.

This is where you come in.

The Saudi dictatorship is now pushing its propaganda to falsely promote itself as a world leader in this time of crisis. But together, we can push back, revealing the true nature of this dictatorship.

Can you help by taking these four steps?

Take a look at this article on the Saudi war on Yemen and the potential for a COVID-19 outbreak

Then share this draft Tweet of the above article!

Check out this article about why Saudi Arabia is unfit to host the virtual G20 summit.

Post this Tweet to spread the word about how the Saudi dictatorship is in no position to be hosting this summit.

These articles punch a hole in the careful PR strategies of this dictator. And by sharing these articles online, we interrupt the Saudi dictatorship’s ability to push its propaganda.

Thank you for taking action. In the days and weeks ahead, we will share even more ways to challenge the Saudi dictator and his global alliances.
