George Floyd (Petition!)

Fw: George Floyd (Petition)

Salaam/Hello,

I didn't see this until last night when I went to my junk email to clear out my inbox. Kindly sign this petition and circulate!

Thank you,

Najwa

P.S. In some places, there has been talk by people including Muslims saying there is a need for more black people in policing who are serving in leadership roles, etc. More black people are not necessarily needed in leadership roles in the police force. What is needed are more just-minded people, people who exude equality and justice for all humans in words and in deeds regardless of what color they are. To think that Imam Asi who is half Syrian, half Lebanese and American born couldn't do as good of a job playing a leadership role in a police office or at police headquarters as could a black person is ignorant. People who make such statements or who make such claims need to discern where these statements of theirs are coming from. Why do they make such suggestions? To think that our beloved Prophet (PBUH) who advocated for the rights of all peoples needed, for example, to be black colored or to be a member of the prevailing \"black cultural experience\" in order to assert the rights and be on the front lines of a movement to change the condition of black colored slaves at the time of his Prophethood is bogus. Obviously, him being black colored was not needed. People need to remove their color blinders and need to replace them with clean hearts and clean minds that see all humans despite their color, despite their race, despite their nationality, despite their culture, despite their socioeconomic status, despite their religion, despite whatever as one big human family where every member is equal to that of all other members and thus, if one member is being harmed or treated unjustly, all other members should run to his/her rescue or aid regardless of whether or not they share the same superficial features and non-critical characteristics. Allah teaches us this and we know this as Muslims but when it comes time to apply this knowledge or understanding, that is, in times of serious significance - when peoples' lives are on the line, people seem to have amnesia or a serious case of Alzheimer's.

Adults of today and particularly adult Muslims of today who are suppose to know better need to be less self-centered, more mature, and begin really using their God-given minds to a level that is needed in order for them to act in ways that facilitate positive change and a better world for everybody.

\"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.\" Martin Luther King Jr.

Until we start sincerely and truly believing that \"We're all in this together.\" and until we sincerely and truly and with effort act as though \"We're all in this together.\", we are going to continue to suffer as people and an overwhelming number of us will continue to suffer significantly more so than the others will.

In the end, we have to start living our deen and inviting others to it by our overt actions. When we have achieved this, we will begin to see justice and peace for all.

Dear MoveOn member,

Firing these police officers isn't enough. \"They treated him worse than they treat animals,\" said the sister of George Floyd about the police officers who killed her brother. \"They took a life — they deserve life.\"1

George Floyd, a Black man, was handcuffed and pinned down on the pavement by a white Minneapolis police officer who continued to press his knee into George's neck as George repeatedly cried out, \"I can't breathe,\" and \"Please, I can't breathe.\"

The video captured on May 26 by one of the bystanders shows the police officer brutally holding down George Floyd. The witnesses try to get the police officers to stop, telling them, \"He's not even resisting arrest right now.\"2 After several minutes of the officer kneeling on his neck, George Floyd becomes silent and motionless. Then, showing his total disregard for George Floyd, the police officer pulls George's lifeless body by his arms and drags him away.

Sign the petition calling on Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to hold the police officers who murdered George Floyd accountable.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey: You must hold the police officers who killed George Floyd fully accountable.

After seeing the heartbreaking video of George Floyd's murder, you said that \"this man's life matters,\" that \"being black in America should not be a death sentence,\" and that this doesn't reflect \"the measures we've taken to ensure accountability.\"3

We are calling on you to honor George Floyd's life by making sure there is justice for him and his family. You must hold all of the police officers involved in George Floyd's murder accountable to the full extent of the law.

After a public outcry and support from government officials, the police officers involved in George Floyd's murder were fired, although the police union intends to provide full support to the officers. We need to make sure these police officers can never again terrorize the people they were entrusted to protect and are held fully accountable for George Floyd's murder.

Sign this petition demanding that the police officers who murdered George Floyd be held accountable.

Thank you.
