The Widow

In the Congo 20km from the town of Bukavu a young mother of four lost her husband who was a victim of a sudden death. Three days afterward the grief was lighter and the widow was a victim of several threats from her family in law. The widow was accused of sorcery and prostitution. The in-laws obtained all the possessions that had been left by her husband such as the house, the land and the small livestock. Each time the children are chassed out of school because of lacking money to pay. They are sent away without shelter. It is difficult for them to eat and sometimes not at all. They give themselves up to drinking and drugs. I would ask the Congolese government to implement a law that will protect widows and the goods left after the death of their husbands. Also protect orphans and their rights. That a civil marriage be required and that children are registered to a civil state.
