Blog for Social Media

I attended a great workshop last week in Portland, hosted by the Meyer Memorial Trust. It was the 3rd in a series called "Communication in the Age of Social Media". The keynote speaker, Beth Kanter, was full of information and ideas, and inspired many of the 200+ attendees.

You can watch Beth's blog at this link: http://beth.typepad.com. Check out her new picture--she's sporting a Free Geek t-shirt!

I asked Beth if she thought that social media and social networking was a North American construct. Based on the work that she's done in Cambodia, she sees that these ideas translate easily across geographical and social boundaries. She did a vlogging workshop in Cambodia, and even though YouTube wasn't very available to them because of bandwidth constraints, they realized that their videos would be seen throughout the world. They were enthusiastic about creating and posting videos to support their work.
