Empowering Women Through Technology

I just finished reading Shameela Ali's essay on women and technology.  Boldly, we can go forward using technology to strengthen our voices.  The power of voice and imaging technology expands our capacity for self expression.

Voice and video technology is especially relevant for those studying current events and history.  For example, last night, I watched Peter Jackson's documentary on World War 1.  He used oral histories and film of WW1 veterans from the Imperial Museum.  Then, he and his crew laboriously transformed the film into color, using precise research to make sure the color of the uniforms was accurate.  Then, he worked with people who can read lips, in order to ascertain what the soldiers were saying.  The final product was a highly acclaimed visual masterpiece.

At the moment, I want to expand my own skill with technology.  I'm writing a paper on my father's experience during World War 1 and the photographs I am using will, I hope, make the article come alive for readers.  I'm amazed by what technology, from photography to film, has done with historical preservation.

For example, technology allowed me to share this amazing image of my father standing next to his trainer plane, in 1918, over a hundred years ago!

I want to learn more!  I'm so impressed with how World Pulse designs its website, using technology to reveal the stories of women around the world.
