Cameroon has been experiencing a humanitarian crisis since 2016 which caused schools to be closed down. Between 2016 and present date, the rate of teenage pregnancies and motherhood has tripled. Young girls experience high rate of gender base violence, specifically rape and sexual abuse which results to pregnancies. They have now become mothers, not by choice but because a number of them have also lost their friends to unwanted or forced abortions.
As a #SheTransfromTech Featured Changemaker my initiative is to digitally empower these vulnerable young women so that they will gain the exposure they need, network, gain opportunities for empowerment and life transformation.
This activity was planned in July and 30 young mothers, 12 pregnant young women were trained on digital skills. By the end of my tenure as a #SheTransfromTech Featured Changemaker I hope to impact 750 young mother, women/girls with disabilities and women/girls living with HIV/AIDS in the North West Region of Cameroon. This month of July, I have impacted 42 young women.
These young women face the challenge of accessing digital tools for continuity. We are hoping that some digital tools may be donated to them as support for their digital education and economic empowerment.
