Power of Web 2.0

Web 2.0 has become an essential tool in my daily life for the last few years. I am amazed of how much I can utilize the internet comparing to when I was first introduced to it in 2004. As the technology has developed through time, many application and various social media platforms have been created to meet with the increasing people needs. Web 2.0 makes me most excited about abilities to get all kinds of information at the tip of my finger. I find life easier in term of getting any information I want. Besides, Web 2.0 excites me on how much easier to get myself connected with people across the globe. Social media and social networking have developed into a very crucial instrument for people in this globalized world, especially for the young generations.

Because of its amazing capabilities, Web 2.0 is able to bring many solutions to the global women’s empowerment movement. First of all, Web 2.0 allows women to connect with each other and share their stories. Personally, I do think that women find it difficult when it comes to sharing their struggling stories. There are many women in the world who were born entrusted with countless responsibilities. This ugly fact seems to undermine the way that some women think of how much they can do. Since they are counted on those default duties, they start to think that it is how their lives supposed to be. They think they were born to handle such pressure. It is not something new to them, and there is nothing they can do about it. They perceive it as reality they cannot escape, and some don’t find it helping to even share their stories to others. This is when Web 2.0 comes into views. It opens many doors for women to expand their perceptions. It allows women to get connected and see that there are other women out there trying to get out of the way of lives they were told to live in. Moreover, Web 2.0 brings broader scope for women to express themselves and shares their passions. Provided with these competences, women are empowered and encouraged to demand for just any changes they need. That’s when the global women’s empowerment movement becomes possible.

Just like other women, I find myself strongly empowered through Web 2.0. Like mentioned since the beginning, I have improved my general knowledge by utilizing internet through search engines, mostly Google. Instead of spending time to find someone that I know to answer my questions, I can just find the answer myself using the internet. Also, I build my network using many social networking platforms such Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These have become the tools for me to widely connect myself to the rest of world. Last but not least, blogging is my key weapon to express myself and whatever I have to say. It is the space where I think everyone is given equal opportunity to shout out to the world despite who they are and where they are from.
