World Pulse and Me

Two years ago, I was introduced to an international youth conference called One Young World. It was a life-changing moment for me. I, for the first time, found what I really want to do and how I want to see the world to be in the future. Actually, I was not able to attend that conference since I couldn’t get any sponsor despite my effort of writing to many international organizations. However, I didn’t give up. I followed the conference online via live streaming; therefore, I felt like I was there. The conference woke me up. I was amazed to see many youths trying so hard to make positive changes in the world. Especially, I saw a lot of young women like me who were so brave to stand on the stage and express their views. I was inspired, and that moment, I knew that’s how I want to see myself doing. I described this feeling in two of my blog post called Out of the Box and One Yong World Inspiration

After the conference, I tried to get a hold of two Cambodian women delegates who got sponsored and was able to participate in the conference. One of them is a World Pulse member. We became friends. Few months after I got to know her, she was selected as World Pulse Correspondent 2011 and was flown to the US for World Pulse live. Once again, she inspired me and made me believe that I, she, and other women can do something great even though we are not from prosperous families. That was when I signed up for World Pulse in 2012 and waited for Voice of Our Future 2013 to be opened so that I can participate. Now, here I am, being an applicant for Voice of Our Future 2013.

I’ve always imagined living in the world where men and women are given rights and opportunities equally. Most importantly, I’ve always wish encouragement is provided to women as much as it is provided to men. Some people think that it is not possible because it sounds like a utopian; however, I do believe it is possible if all women come together and make it happens. I have improved such belief for these last few years along my journey of opening up my mind and striving for changes. I am trying to push myself out there to let the world see what I am capable of besides staying home and cooking. Also, I am doing this to show other women that if I can do it, other women can do the same. Seeing how hard applicants in Voice of Our Future working, I am happy and grateful that I am part of it, and this is what I want to see all women doing, not only online, but outside in the real world.
