Update

The First Phase of ICT training for our inmates ended with a ceremony.

It has been 2 months that I have been training 10 inmates on ICT Skills at the Bamenda Central Prison. As the main trainer assisted by one other direct collaborator, we have successfully ended the first phase of the Creative Skills for Peace Project oraginesd by LoYoCo Cameroon.

This project provides an alternative way of life for youths with a history of violence, who are either in prison or correctional facilities a chance at becoming better versions of themselves by giving them a second chance, to live, to be better.

My DAC campaign; \"Bring a Girl to STEM\" actually attracted LoYoCo to partner with me on this project.

The beginning of this project was both challenging and exciting as I went through a new experience. At the start i was not sure I could do the job because I was afraid. But now, I can confidently say that I become stronger digital change maker.

The first phase consisted of hands -on computer hard ware and software training including Ms Word (text formatting, editing…) MS PowerPoint. As well as a sports tournament aimed at building peace, discipline and love among them.

Some of them had no idea about using a computer at the start, others had little knowledge. What surprised me the most was how fast they picked up the vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

We are now moving on to phase two which comprises the production of marketable items using ICT skills to generate in come for the now called #Prisonpreneurs .

The organizers of this project called Local Youth Corner is headed by our Common Wealth Youth Ambassador who recently paid us a visit during which he expressed his gratitude and satisfaction. He will grant startup funds for this phase for the purchase of material to produce season cards, complimentary cards, greeting cards, invitation cards… and lots more.

Warm thanks to all my supporters who have been motivating me with kind words of encouragement. I am always moved when some world pulse sisters share their own experience about prison training. You are very inspiring.

Stay tuned as we move unto phase two.
