I am passion driven on my mission to break stereotypes about STEM education for girls. Last year in June during my digital action campaign entitled “Bring a Girl to STEM”, I launched a STEM Mentoring program for girls at CYEED digital empowerment center in Bamenda.

More in this link. https://www.worldpulse.com/en/community/users/ngassa-sophie-monkam/campa... #STEMingUp a Sister Mentoring Program is a free mentoring program for girls and women in STEM. This program pairs students at CYEED with a personal one-on-one mentor. The interaction is both online via Skype and physical .

At that time, I had some challenges in running this program effectively especially the online sessions due to lack of technical equipment and other issues. Thanks to the VGIF grant I was able organize a mentoring event. This program engaged girls and young women mentors from around the world in mentoring sessions.

Personally I have benefited a lot from mentoring as early as 2010 when I created CYEED. I am highly motivated to share my experience with the younger generation of Techies. During our STEM Holiday Boot Camp we successfully run 2 sessions of virtual and physical mentoring thanks to kind collaboration with a great team.

My dear world pulse sisters, Jill form Spain and Adanna form Nigeria were engaged in 20 minutess E- mentoring with our girls. We also had 3 other female  mentor who joined us at the center, Pierette, Nadege and Selma, including 2 men to support our work, Aretas and Vianney who are also World Pulse members and my close collaborators.. Thanks to the World Pulse community for all the endless support.

The question answer session was very exciting for us all. Girls received advice on how to forge on in the male dominated field. Some girls were excited while some other were shy, for their first experience. Over all it was big fun.

We look forward to another session in September / October and I hereby invite anyone who in interested to join us in providing a guided mentoring relationship using online software. You send me a message in box. Thank you and stay tuned!

Thumbs up for the great work indeed we celebrate the achievements together. Mentoring the younger generation in whichever aspects promoteds the element of accountability and it keeps one going atleast for the young women. Knowing someone has got your back is really energising and encourages one to push harder in whatever endeavour.

Dear Sophie,

It is so encouraging to think of all those girls who are learning STEM though you. What a difference in all of their lives and what a bright future is being created. Such extra fun that Adanna and Jill were part of this too. WorldPulse sisters rock together! The lives of the girls who get to meet you are changed forever.

Love,

Tam

Wow! Amazing ma'am.

I am interesting in Renewable Energy Enguneering. But my family thinks it is too time consuming for a woman; i should rather do medicine or teach.

I live in Buea, Cameroon. How can i be part of the STEM mentoring program.
