ALONE

I stand alone watching the sunset
as the fiery ball loses its fire and fury.

I watch the rays imparting a golden hue to water
turning it into a shimmering flame.

I stand alone looking at the vast expanse
looking for nothing, yet for something.

I stand alone leaving everything far behind
with no hope, yet not ready to give up.

I stand alone hearing and feeling the breeze
making out what it was trying to say.

I stand alone knowing darkness will creep in
and soon embrace the whole expanse.

I stand alone with an unsettling peace within
marking the coming of a storm and chaos.

I stand alone unafraid and distant
I stand alone still and waiting, for what, I know not.

Waiting for something, an unknown thought,
an unknown feeling, an unknown presence or a guiding light.

I stand alone unknown, lost and defeated
I stand alone knowing not what to do, where to go.

I stand alone waiting,
waiting- to wake up.

PS: I wrote this poem some years back. One fine day as I was sitting with my eyes closed suddenly this scene flashed across my eyes. I got up and wrote this poem. I wrote the last two lines even before finishing the whole poem. The mystery of this poem was revealed two years later when I was exactly in the same condition as narrated in the poem not physically but metaphorically.

Not content with having put my experience in a poem I also wrote a prose piece. Am posting that as well next.

When I recited it to a friend her reaction was disbelief. She said “you are exactly in the same situation how could you write this two years before” She asked me if I had got it published somewhere. Luckily I had, in a local newspaper.
