Lets go green!

While reading Madeleine's article on 'Environment and sustainability' issue of Congo, I thought it would be nice if I add some of those lines in a global context in my journal. Two years back I had written an article with the same title 'Lets go green'. It was more chemistry oriented. But I thought I can attach it here, if it is interesting for anyone, they can go through it.
Yes I want to add a line: while thinking globally, we need to act locally.

At first, as a responsible citizen, we need to protect our environment, our air and our water. Education plays a great role and yes, women play a great role too. Since mostly women take care of the house hold affairs, we need to reduce the waste, to find innovative ways of recycling stuffs, we need to teach our children and our neighbors as small steps to protect our environment. e.g a small step, which I try to inculcate is by using a cotton bag while I go for shopping to minimize consumption of plastic bags, carrying our own plates for our get together with friends to minimize use of disposable plates etc.

It is great to enforce greener approach by the Govt. and changes in policies. But locally, educated people should get together, organize and plan events to create awareness and educate community members for a safe, green and healthy environment. I also think there is no harm in incorporating these approach in the syllabus of school in the form of short stories, so that children learn from a young age. It will also encourage children or community people if the teacher or community head announces some small prize for a certain environmentally friendly activity.
Yes, we need to protect our environment and contribute towards making it safe for us.
