Abortion is murder ,illegal ! Why are women dying?

One woman in my country will cry for help and will eventually die procuring abortion in the back streets, with a quack whose business is in making the bloody money!
It so happened to a neighbor, a mother, a wife and a Christian, I knew that abortion is murder and is illegal and that I could not be a victim of circumstance until one time in the stillness of the night a vulnerable woman was fighting it alone in a pool of blood, writhing in pain and her other baby was clinging on the breast of her dear mother unknown of the whole drama. A short brief history confirmed illegal abortion done and gone bad .Do I turn her in to the police? As this thoughts raced in my mind, blood gushed out of her, a palm size fetus came out, and the woman fainted. I didn’t have any means to rush her to the hospital. But eventually she was helped in my hospital the following day.
The Kenyan Constitution stipulates very well that abortion is illegal; women can only be saved when their life is in danger. I don’t know what danger the government is referring to here. Must women seek to be pierced with needles, take poison or detergents for the world to know they are in danger? I cry and ask what kind of humility is this to women. First they miss drugs to prevent unwanted pregnancies, two they miss proper medical care when giving life. When? Oh my! When does the world want to know that women are in danger?
Advocacy is what I am doing now reaching out to service providers in terms of strengthening their knowledge on the constitution so that they too can become teachers at the grass root level. Until when the health professionals understand the meaning of the constitution and the bill of rights. The citizens of this country will suffer from severe knowledge deficit. Through the Web 2.0 the time is now for Kenyan women to demand their rightful places in reproductive health services, when and how to determine their sexuality. The advocacy to prevent unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion is my job. I believe if many midwives get to be connected through the pulse wire to say their stories, we will make the worst noise until the government hears. No woman must die while seeking for maternal care on time.
