MY TISSUE FELL IN MY FATHER'S ROOM

I always wondered why my mother had a lot of pieced clothes during menstruation. I never saw her use sanitary pads. So it was my turn, the first day I saw my period, she bought me a pack of tissue instead of pads and when I run out of pads, she will suggest that I dismantle my unused skirt. I wasn't comfortable with the idea but who do I complain too? One evening, I went to lay my father's bed properly, unknowingly the tissue had cut into half and dropped off my pant in his bedroom. He beckoned on me when he entered his room and pointed to the floor "what is this?" he said. I was embarrassed as I quickly took it off the floor. My turning point was when sanitary pad was shared for free in college.

Hi Olamipeju,

Thanks for sharing your menstruation story, dear. That would be embarrassing, but really it shouldn't be, right? You were only using what you were given to use, right? And, it's a natural process? Do you still feel shame over this experience?

Hope you're having a good day!

Hi Olamipeju,
There are those moments that we wish had never happened. I love Jill's encouragement that we have no need to be embarrassed. I especially love that you had free sanitary pads shared in college. What a leap forward for all the girls in your college!

Thanks for sharing your story dear. I think our mothers like today felt comfortable with the cloths as its today. Honestly, when I got exposed to the reusable pads which is a cloth like form, I never wanted to use the disposable again. Unless, when I think I will stay longer outside is when I resolve to it.

Peju,
That must have been embarrassing, I personally hated it and always felt like the ground should swallow me when I had to ask my father for money to buy pads when in high school. But thank God I learned a trick, to hide the request in a shopping list where he just had to give money. There are those times I used a tissue and cotton wool as well. Selah

Oops....

Hello, Olamipeju,

I understand that we feel embarrassed when it comes to our periods. Maybe because we were not educated that it is a natural process of a woman’s body, and it is ok.

Thank you for sharing your story! I’m glad there are free pads available in your college. That’s so helpful!
