CHALLENGES....WHAT NEXT?

Some of the major challenges that I have encountered in creating change in my community are language barrier and inability to create "Women Resource Centre" with much emphasis on Health Issues. A centre where women could be orientated and well informed on issues affecting them locally and globally. Although, I have tried to educate more women that crossed my path on the need and importance of knowing their Rhesus Factor, but I strongly believe that having a resource centre for women in collaboration with local health centre, will make much difference as greater number of women will be reached.

One other challenge that I have is communication barrier. Although, English is a compulsory language in my country, but it is not understood by all. Hence, I look forward to working with volunteer Translators who could be of help in translating a few words that connote Rhesus factor into other languages. Words such as "Ask Your Doctor for Your Rhesus Group", "Do you know your Rhesus Group" etc. Hoping that such leaflets and wall charts with such inscriptions would help pass on the message.

With the little time I’ve had meeting with fellow women, it’s a fact that there are still lots of women out there who know nothing about Rhesus group. Although, this item comes up especially during pregnancy etc. but, it’s not a bad idea for every woman to know her status and be well informed. Maybe if I had known earlier, I would have taken necessary precautions and avoided the stress of going through unpleasant times… this is where my inspiration lies.

My Strategies:
There are two categories of women, we have those who are educated and have easy access to the computer/internet and we have those who are illiterate and don't use the internet. For the learned women who have access to the internet, I hope to use PulseWire and other online communities as a tool to creating awareness on this vital but relegated issue. Already, I have initiated this discussion on two different online communities, and the responses I have received thus far have been encouraging. But, my desire is to propagate it on every possible platform so that concerned pregnant women/mothers would be saved from impending danger of Rhesus disease. So, glad to be on WorldPulse...

And, to the women on the street and whose workplace is on farmland, I hope to be a strong voice through which their voices can be heard and understood. To the unlearned women in my community and environs who do not have access to the internet nor knowledgeable enough to the use of computer system. I want to be the medium through which they can raise one voice and cause a change.
