The female tribe in Kabusa Community

I got a job in an NGO recently as the national women and girls affairs secretary in my country, so I'm embarking on a project in the Kabusa community Abuja, FCT Nigeria. I realized that the prevalence of gender-based violence is prominent in the Kabusa community even before the covid19 lockdown. Now, there is a high probability of teenage pregnancy in the Kabusa community. Also, the prevalence of rape cases and victims that don't have the strength to speak out because of the threats from predators of the crime. I have a series of programs outlines to avert these acts in the community. I need more suggestions on the kind of programs, I can do. I feel very intimated already. I have also had a passion to always empower women. Now I got a platform. I need to navigate well. Thanks, sisters.

Thank you sister

Hello, Oludolapo,

Congratulations on your NGO work! I understand that the tasks are many in this line of work. You may start reading about the works of our sisters here, dear. You may type gender-based violence on the Search Bar to find these stories.

You may also want to search Nigeria to connect with women leaders and Ambassadors. They will be happy to help for sure. :)

Dear Oludolapo,

Congratulations on getting a job that is in alignment with your aspirations. I can imagine that the situation in which you find youself is extremely intimidating, but do not fear because, as national women and girls affairs secretary, you have a podium that you can use to raise awareness among the girls on how to protect themselves from sexual predators.

The other thing, you can do is encourage them to report to you, and you can in turn report the crimes to your superiors who should take up the cases with higher authorities.

I am sure that with time, you will feel more confident to deal with this situation.
I encourage you to be patient with yourself, and to seek the advice of your superiors.
I also hope that you have people to whom you can talk and who can support you in what you are doing because it can be emotionally draining, and I would hate for you to suffer from burn-out.

All the best. Please keep us updated.
