VOF Week 1: (THOUGH I URINATE FROM BEHIND BUT I AM MOVING AHEAD)

The excitement is about global partnership, friendship and participation, turning dreams of women to reality, marching from prison built by beliefs and societal bar created by religio-cultural acceptance of people into becoming a new voice flowing freely without any inhibition or hypocrisy among others of same ideology.

Some of the solutions proffered by web 2.0 to the global women’s empowerment movement are: the creation of a platform that network women of the same value and idea in a special world created by new technology. In addition, it provides empowerment for wise women web (www) whereby women who are poor and unable pay flight fare can learn exactly what privileged few have learnt from them in a class- like manner free of all charges through web 2.0.

Who would have read the poems under my pillow if not for my pulse wire friends? It empowered women to speak out from the confines of their room and inviting all friends all over the world in a conference on your bed, comparing notes, exchanging ideas on your bed while at the same time feeling valued and elated.

Web 2.0 empowers me because it is erasing the ideas implanted into my sub consciousness by my mother especially. Growing up in my kind of background gave me no self esteem at all; the empowerment I need can only be gotten through my fellow women who can truly perform those tasks that were alien to my background.

To be a bit specific, I was voiceless in my father’s house, my voice is irrelevant and the recurrent phrase was the woman’s house is her husband’s house save your words. I look forward to when I will be married and able to contribute ideas, after marriage, I was a bit relieved but alas, the best answer there is, keep your opinion to your husband let us listen to the son of the soil!. In every other place, it is “ordinary woman that urinates from behind, the best place is behind please” My mother told me that it would have been best to come to the world as a son because when you urinate from behind, you do not have a place in the front row.

Web 2.0 gives me a voice with no consideration for first or second row; I log in and post without anyone asking if I urinate from behind or in front. I have learnt where no one asks about my bank account before creating an account for me, I am able to create file and profiles with no one asking about the file where I kept my resume before being allowed to chat or contribute. In my journal, I can contribute without thinking about the political affiliation of my editor, unlike here where you dare not post anything against an erring political godfather of your publisher.
