Introducing myself and my journal: Tiny Giants

About Me:
I am a people person, an advocate of childrens’ rights and gender equity. I have a passion for helping Orphans and Vulnerable Children as well as vulnerable women in the communities. My career objective is to become an effective public health consultant, through skills acquisition in advocacy and project management (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation). My personal skills are cross-cultural consultation skills, data management & analysis skills (SPSS), audio-visual skills, basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-point), monitoring and evaluation skills, community development skills, advocacy skills, communication skills, decision-making skills and facilitation/training skills. My hobbies are meeting people, travelling (especially to new places), playing chess, conducting research, caring for less-privileged children, working with rural communities, writing articles, sewing, singing and teaching songs. Overall, I have had eight years experience in caring for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), starting from my days as an undergraduate in 2004 when I started rendering some voluntary humanitarian services to some Liberian children at the Oru-Refugee camp, situated in Oru-Ijebu, Ogun State while in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. During the years, I assisted in paying their school fees, provided food materials and clothing materials and assisted them with some of their house chores. More so, I successfully mentored twenty-five Liberian-refugee youth and other Nigerian youth into developing healthy life-skills, following the right career path, and maximizing their God-given potentials.
Furthermore, during my NYSC programme, I was trained as a Peer Educator Trainer, through the UNICEF/NYSC HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project, where I successfully mentored 40 secondary school students as Peer Educators in my community of service.
After my service year, I secured a voluntary work with a community-based organization in Owu-Ijebu, Child and Family Development Initiative (CFDI), collaborating with the SOS Children’s Village-Family Strengthening Programme (SOS-FSP) as the Family Development Planning (FDP) Coordinator, where I also cared for OVC.
I have MPH in Health Promotion and Education, and currently a Fellow under the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative, an initiative of US Consulate General, Lagos. My hobbies are meeting people from different tribes, travelling (especially to new places), playing chess, conducting research, caring for less-privileged children, working with rural communities, writing articles, sewing, singing and teaching songs.
