Female Inheritance in South East Nigeria

My organisation Our Lady of Perpetual Help(OLPHI) started the #16daysActivism against #GenderBasedViolence engagement with Classic Royal Ladies of Nigeria. One prominent testimony stood out during our sharing. A father who is still alive shared his assets and made sure his female children were part of the inheritance. He gave them choice properties and the sons kicked and fought but the Father stood his grounds. According to the Father, the daughters have been of immense support to him over time. Eventually the sons backed down and accepted the sharing. We know about sons preference over female children. Harmful widowhood practices. In continuation we had a Beauty Enhancement Skill Training - Gele Tying Skill. It was fun #FemaleGenitalMutilation #IStandWithHer #GenerationEquality let's #OrangeTheWorld let's close #GenderGaps #SupportiveFather #He4She join us to make #PowerImbalance a thing of the past

My Committment

i will continue with my organisations action plan for this 16days in engaging women, girls and men on the need for us all to put an end to gender based violence.

i will be engaging both urban and rural communities. School based activities and using the media to engage more people. i intend to employ the use of social media to popularise #IStandWithHer hashtag for our world pulse community. We must #OrangeTheWorld, collectively drive #GenerationEquality and close up the #GenderGaps and above all #StandAgainstRape in all ramification. Women and Girls should stop the silence and break out. The silence is supporting perpetrators, fuelling their evil minds and drive their pervertness.

Constant Engagement will give more voice to Gender based violence. At all the engagements i have had recently the contributions from callers have been more horrible that what we think. Nigeria have officially announced that 2 million are raped annually. this number are reported cases what of the ones that go unreported for fear of reprisal attack?
