Conversations on Women and Disability

Last March 27, World Pulse Philippines conducted a webinar on "Protecting Women's Human Rights during the COVID-19 lockdown". We emphasized that women have different needs. And the lockdown will bring more harm to those who are living in violent homes where women and girls will be under the control of their abusers 24/7. We also cited the situation of the elderly widows who are living alone and are not allowed to go out of their homes because of the lockdown. Who is going to buy or bring food and medicines for them? Pregnant women who needs prenatal care will have difficulty in getting to her doctor due to the absence of transportation. And will there be available and accessible contraceptives for women of reproductive age? What about the rights of the women with disability?

Today, on the Women with Disability Day in the Philippines, we will be holding a Conversation on Women and Disability. We are inviting you to join us.

Hi Jill,
We are well. Thank you and hope you are coping well, too. We had a very informative conversation with topnotch women with disabilities. Learned a lot and that deserves a follow-up session.

Hi Karen,
We missed you during the conversation. It was an educative session about the work of our sisters with disabilities. Take care sis.

Hello, dear Ate Pauline, yes, I really thought your talk about Protecting Women's Rights was the last live webinar. I told Mae Ann I could no longer attend live sessions from then on. I will definitely watch the recorded videos. People with disabilities are close to my heart. God bless you always po. Hugs!

This is such a great cause! I think it's so important to remember the most underprivileged women in our communities, and make sure we are doing our best to account for everyone. A discussion is a great way to keep that at the front of our awareness!

Thanks Paulina. Am so touched by some of the worries you raised especially about women with disabilities. It's the same worries we have in our own context here. I hope you were able to come up with some solutions so you could share with us. Women with hearing impairment have a double Vulnerability as most people and even family members can't communicate effectively in Sign language. We look forward to reading from you again. Thanks

Dear Regina,
Frankly, I feel so inadequate when with people with disabilities because I don't have the capability to communicate with them especially those who are hearing and visually impaired. Learning the sign language should be a must for all of us. Will plan for a next webinar where they'll talk about solutions.

Dearest sister Paulina,

Thank you for bringing to us the understanding of different segments who will find it difficult to cope with COVID-19 induced living conditions and the lockdown. Very important discussion indeed.
Much love always,

Hi sister Urmila,
Let's pray that this COVID-19 virus disappear soonest. We are all vulnerable and I myself will find difficulty in coping with it because of the inability of the health care system to test and attend to the patients. Let's pray that this will all end soonest.

Hi Sister Paulina,
I hope you and your family are safe. I'm sorry for such late commentary and wasn't able to join in on your call. I hope it was a success! When will you be holding a follow up session?
I echo your concerns!!! I feel so helpless with those who are most vulnerable...I pray that they are protected but I know I must do more.
Sending you love from afar.
