web 2.0: the power to connect and act

Web 2.0 offers unlimited space and allows everyone with passion an opportunity to create and share information. It allows people from different backgrounds and gender to build lasting relationships without meeting. The world is now one family because Web 2.0 has enabled interaction between groups as well as volunteer participation in all issues affecting humankind. It is an exciting arena which offers me an opportunity to share great ideas that can change the world. When women have a voice, the world will become a peaceful place as they play an integral role in conflict resolution at both domestic and national level. Cases of violence against women are increasing, it is web 2.0 that gives us an opportunity to connect together, share ideas, collaborate and participate in making noise and fighting for change. I cannot ignore it when my sister in India is abused, so I get a chance to be part of her fight which is also my fight for justice. Our lives are intricately interwoven by our shared experiences and web 2.0 gives us the chance to be united and stand together. Those women with a voice can extend it to their sisters who do not have a voice and teach them to speak until all women speak with one voice, love each other and stand as one. When you hurt one, you have hurt all. It diminishes the idea that someone can turn a blind eye to someone’s problems and situation and makes me realize that there is a possibility of a world that stands together and fights together so that each man’s rights are realized and respected and brings to task all those who fail to uphold human rights. There is no bureaucracy and protocol and the women can stand together and demand action and recognition. In addition, it aids in grassroots women’s ability to take part in policy formulation as it is a learning opportunity for social, political and economic issues. It allows ordinary women who are part of the global women movement a chance to share and connect and challenge existing systems that thwart the rights of children, women and vulnerable groups in society. I feel that I can benefit from ideas of women continents away who have challenged the status quo and patriarchy to achieve better treatment of women and children. It gives me a platform to air out my thoughts and feelings without fear of repression or cultural constraints which would otherwise render me voiceless. Moreover, it is easier for me to become a leader as it allows me access to contribute to issues that affect me. More importantly it allows me to become the change that I want to see. I feel my voice can change the world. The mediocre attitude that transfers all responsibility to others is shed as I have been given an opportunity and if I don’t do something then who will. To be given a voice and use it is what makes web 2.0 exciting and empowering.
