Welcome! - from Community Champion, Phionah

Phionah Musumba
Posted January 20, 2015 from Kenya

Phionah Musumba is the brains behind Malkia Foundation and the Centre for Disadvantaged Girls. We are based in rural Western Kenya. We empower girls with education and women with skills for enterprise development for gainful or self employment.

My interest in being a community champion for the group is borne of the need to further amplify the voices of the women at the grassroots worldwide, who are actually always on top of the list when it comes to dire need of economic empowerment.

My intention is to bring to the fore the challenges that grassroots women leaders undergo every day in their journey to empower girls, the youth and women in their communities , my hope being that sooner than later, they will be empowered themselves economically, enough to carry out their duties without worrying about their economic inadequacies.

I invite fellow grassroots women leaders to walk with me hand in hand in this labour of love journey for our fellow women by sharing their ideas, aspirations and visions for the change we want to see in our communities, to make the world the best place for tomorrow’s generations to live.

Gladys, I believe microfinance will be a crucial subtopic in this group - it is so relevant to so many women around the world!  Please feel free to share your thoughts, resources, suggestions, etc. in this group.  Also, perhaps one day you'd be willing to do a webinar or training of some sort for the group members...?  Sharing knowledge is a key aspect of empowering women everywhere!

Thank you so so very much for the offer to help me understand and live well the world of micro finance, Gladys.

I want to thank LeanaM for saying/asking/suggesting better than I ever could, about how we can work together towards this endeavor. So looking forward to learning a lot from you. Feel free to chat me up anytime.

Phionah - what excitement to see you as a leader of this new Economic Empowerment group! We are so lucky to have you on board as one of our first Online Community Champions, and know that you will bring much skill and support to this role. Your invitation to "walk hand in hand" together in a labor of love to support women by sharing ideas, visions, and aspirations is truly beautiful. Thank you for helping to create a space where women will feel encouraged and supported to do so. We are all here cheering you on; I am honored by the opportunity to support you and this group in any way I can, always!

Hello Phionah,

Thank you for taking on the leadership of this important group. I look forward now to reading more of what you have already posted, as well. I am here to listen closely and learn. I want to help create a much stronger network of support from sisters in my country. I hope to encourage many women here to look a lot more closely at money that is wasted here, that could be supporting the work and lives of women, globally. I look forward to the new pathways that we can create together.

Hi Tam, Your comments warm my heart. I was in Austin, Texas between August and December 2014 and what I experienced in the way of what Texans take for granted left me wishing I could take all the women in Africa to live there and partake of the same. I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for your comments. Looking forward to working with you.
