Young Women And Girls Experiences In Conflict Time

My side of the story as a young person

I am a girl, aged 17. The crisis started when I was 13 years old and at that age I was in form three. Since then I have not gone to school, instead I became a sex worker for powerful people, so my family and I could be secured and stay in our house. It became so risky to continue such business, because often time I was caught between two ( elephants) and me the grass I pay with my body treated like an animal.  We had to abandon our house and become IDPS in another town where life has not still been easy for us. I have a child as a result of being a sex worker and can’t even identify the father.  I tell my story so the world knows what we are going through most especially young girls in #NWSW. Let them help us bring back peace to our country and community.

It was on the 22 of November 2016, at around 1pm, I saw a crowd of people most young people coming towards the roundabout saying “things must change, things must change”. In that crowd I could identify my friends so I decided to join them in song and marching peacefully. After that day, that peaceful march and singing became blood, we started singing songs of sorrow and pain. Life has not been the same for us. We now stay with fear and trauma, gunshots now sounds like popcorn for some of us.  Let my story inspire you. Yes you, to call for a #CeasefireNow and end of hostilities.

The crisis is the NWSW region taught me a lesson. During the crisis I decided to vote peace and ignore violence, joining my voice to other voices I learned so many things. I learned greed was the single reason we still have the crisis, even those you think can help solve the problem by calling for peace are more interested in making them self famous and making money. They don’t care about the suffering population, the future of youths , the life of people whom the crisis has rendered homeless. One message I give out on this day is to hoose peace and don’t let others use you to make their money.
