There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise. And Vastuben is one such woman who has proved the same with her ability to achieve something that can hardly cross anybody else’s mind. She earned an annual turnover of Rs. 9 lakhs in the previous year 2016-17 out of milking. Vastuben managed to accomplish such a big milestone all on her own while the irony is, she has never been to school.

Vastuben Kanchanji Thakor belongs to Mulakpur, a small village located in Diyodar town in Banaskantha district. Banaskantha is well-known for its agro and food processing, textile, tourism, and dairy business. The district ranks first in the country in milk production though it falls under the most backward districts of the country. The district has recorded a considerable development over the recent few years as more farmers are turning towards new and improved ways milk production and procurement while earning major profits from the same. The notable fact is that the women in this area are also actively participating in this field.

Most of the women are majorly occupied in milking the animals. And Vastuben is among those women. She milks her cattle every day and supplies the milk to the local milk society. While in an interview with Vastuben, she shares her story, “We possess 34 animals in total which comprise of 13 cows, 7 buffaloes and 14 calves. We milk 100 liters of milk each in the morning and evening and deposit 200 liters of milk every day at the cooperative society. This yields us about Rs. 1.5 lakhs monthly. Our yearly expense turns around Rs. 9 lakhs while earning the same amount annually.”

Vastuben is one of those women who fight against odds and stand out as an inspiration to the rest. Her courage, determination, and hard work altogether set a perfect example of how women are making a headway in a male-dominated dairy industry. And now, it is time to empower our women that will lead to an empowered nation.

Hi Promptamcs. Thanks for sharing another inspiring story about another amazing woman. Why did Vastuben start doing all this work on her own for?

Hello Promptamcs,

Hearing Vastuben story of livelihood and survival, i will say she is a strong lady. All though we often say ' what a man can do, a woman can do and do it better', but what prompted her to get into this?
