THE MIRACLE OF OUR SON

By Purity Mwendwa
The unexpected happens
My husband and I were expecting our first baby in August 26. However, this did not happen as we had expected. My waters broke in June. We rushed to the nearest health clinic. The diagnosis was done and there was no way of preventing the baby from coming out.
The scan results were positive though. My baby was fine. He had a regular heart beat; his little spine, brain and other parts were completely normal. The worry was that the amniotic fluid surrounding my baby had exceedingly reduced, a condition called oligohydramnious.
Early Blessings
In June at 11.00am we were the proud parents of a very small baby boy weighing only 1000grammes. He did not look at all like the baby we had looked forward to during the previous months. But he was our baby and we could not do anything at all to help him now, except be by his side, pray hard, and put our hopes into the doctors and nurses’ skills and expertise.
Daily care
I truly believed that prayers do work and prayed to God like I never did before. I never gave up. I held on to the hope. I knew God was on my side. When my son started gaining weight then I knew that my prayers had truly been answered.
I went to see my son every morning to “express milk” for him. A long journey for me, it was. Day after day I went to the hospital not even missing once. But it was the best I could do for him at that particular time. I would spend the whole day in the hospital. Most of my times were spent in the nursery watching him move his tiny body. By now I had gotten used to seeing his tiny naked wrinkled body without fat tissues.
Coming home
On August 6, my son was discharged and weighed 2050 grammes. We named him Dennis Bundi. It was one of the happiest days of my life.
Our son Dennis is now 3 years and 6 months. He started going to school this year-2011. He is the light of our life and truly a miracle baby, a real gift from God.
