LOBBYING OF US CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS - Defending the Rights of Americans Living Abroad & State Dept's. Refusal to Assist

Dear Congressman/Congresswoman,

I am contacting you in your capacity as a member of the Americans Abroad Caucus, and in regards to the interests of the over 6 million Americans residing overseas as well as the millions of Americans with commercial interests abroad.

On July 27, 2011 in his testimony to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, the Under Secretary of Management Patrick Kennedy stated “The protection of US citizens abroad ranks among the Secretary's and the Department's absolute highest priorities.” And, the Department of State website is filled with their commitment to promoting human rights around the world as well as eradicating violence and discrimination against women (www.state.gov/j/drl/hr/index.htm, www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/fs/2009/121764.htm, www.state.gov/documents/organization/196468.pdf, www.state.gov/documents/organization/196468.pdf.)

Unfortunately, while the State Department is very vocal about protecting and promoting the rights and interests of Americans (as well as promoting democracies and human rights principles around the world) their rhetoric does not translate into reality......

Estimado Congresito/a,

Estoy contactándose en su capacidad como miembro del Caucus de Americanos viviendo al extranjero, y en relación de las interesas de más que 6 millones de americano viviendo al extranjero tanto que millones de americanos que tienen interesas comerciales al extranjero.

El 27 de julio 2011 en su testimonio delante del Comité Senatorial Judicial, el Subsecretario del gestión Patrick Kennedy ha dicho “El protección de los ciudadanos americanos al extranjero están dentro de los prioridades el más alto del Secretario del Estado y el Departamento del Estado Americano.\" Y, la página web del Estado Americano está lleno del compromiso de promover derechos humanos alrededor del mundo tanto que erradicar la violencia y discriminación contra las mujeres (www.state.gov/j/drl/hr/index.htm, www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/fs/2009/121764.htm, www.state.gov/documents/organization/196468.pdf, www.state.gov/documents/organization/196468.pdf)

Desgraciadamente, mientras que el Departamento del Estado está muy vocal sobre la protección de los derechos y interesas de americanos al extranjero (tanto que promoviendo democracias y derechos humanos alrededor del mundo) su retórica no se trasladó a la realidad.
