We Need Your Voices by December 14th on the First Global Media and Gender Framework and Plan of Action

Last week, World Pulse helped lead the process to craft the first ever Global Media and Gender Framework and Plan of Action.

From the 2-4 of December in Bangkok, Thailand, hundreds of leaders and decision-makers in media organizations, civil society, governments, UN agencies, business and human rights advocates gathered to evaluate the trends in gender inequalities in the media and create solutions to reduce gender disparities. Hosted by UNESCO and the Government of Thailand, the purpose of this forum was to set up a Global Alliance on Media and Gender that can unite and create real and sustainable change--and inform the global development agenda post-2015.

The key outputs of the forum were the formal creation of the Global Allliance on Media and Gender (GAMG) and the Framework and Plan of Action.

This framework and plan of action aimed to do three things:

1. Lay out the structure, process and long-term priorities of the GAMG


2. Suggest key areas in regards to media and gender that the GAMG thinks should be included in the post-2015 development agenda (post-Millennium Development Goals)



3. Suggest panels and topics to be included in the 2015 UN Conference on Women, which will be a follow up to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, to be held in New York.

   
   
   

   World Pulse worked diligently to ensure that the voice of grassroots women leaders was represented at this key event. Stella Paul, Community Board Member of World Pulse, and myself, Director of Strategic Partnerships, were present at all forum events, and we were invited to be part of a smaller group of representatives who drafted the first framework.

But we want more input from you, our community! There is an opportunity to give feedback to the UNESCO team who will be finalizing the framework and plan of action. But the turnaround time is short! We welcome specific recommendations on the direction of the framework as well as suggestions around the specific recommendations in Annexes II and III.
