A Teacher like You

Something very unmagical happens when you become a teacher, not by choice, but by running out of other options. Well, the philosophy here in our part of the world is " if you can't be anything else, you can definitely be a teacher" and this very thought has shaped the societies we live in; almost a toxic place to thrive well.

When you are a teacher out of passion you install passionate dreams in your class, the aroma of accomplished self breaths through them. A teacher by mere choice can pick in a class systematically driven by two choices only; either pre-medical and engineer, the best designer, and tell her to own the talent because at the end of the day it is not the profit she gains from some business that matters, but a fulfilling self.

A teacher by choice will well know the proper use of words, the beauty of listening carefully, understanding students' concerns, giving proper feedback, asking them their priorities, helping them making short-term goals, then clapping for them when accomplished. Ahhh! A well-informed teacher will sit down with you and ask you the reasons why you bunk classes rather than forcefully pushing you into a class that drains your emotion.

A teacher who loves the very idea of teaching will wait for you in the class even you are 5 minutes late with a grin smile, and asks you the very reason for it when the entire class has left the school in order to protect your privacy and self-respect. If a teacher does that repeatedly, you will never want to miss her class even for 5 mins. This is what passion does when you are a passionate teacher. It tames discipline effortlessly in students.

"Thank you, welcome, sorry, take care, see you soon " are norms only known to a teacher by choice, not as a last option. So, you have failed a class, failed teaching, failed society when a student is afraid of you and hides behind the bushes when sees you on the school premises or if your presence in school ignites fear in students and your absence an eternal joy!

Maybe, something magical happens when you become a teacher, not by mere choicelessness, but teaching as the priority, so when a student meets you and says, " I never had a teacher like you", you melt in utter joy! That's what happens when you are a teacher by choice, something magical, yet very real.
