Educate the girl child early

As a teacher in Nigeria,in Taraba State and Mutum biyu to be precise,I have seen lots of challenges with the girl child education: father's do not believe in educating their girls and send them into early marriage, those that do send them to schools send them a little too late as a result there are many girls in the community and schools struggling to catch up with school,a lot do not know how to read and write and are either in their late teens or early twenties. A twenty year can be seen in primary and not even doing well. And since parents who send them to school pay for them, they later get tired and give up on them and give them up into marriage, the girls themselves also get discouraged when they see themselves among a few younger ones doing well and feel they can't cope and ask to be married themselves. Women have taken this challenge to working very hard to send their girls to school early but it means they are working twice as hard to achieve this. Therefore, awareness on the importance of educating the girl child early as well as assistance and empowerment of these women who struggle to send their girls to school early is Paramount. I have on my own part set up an extra class outside school to help these girls who are struggling to catch up in school because they were sent a little too late.

Welcome to World Pulse Regina :) Your story is your power!

How sad to know that young girls in your community faces challenges especially on education. In my opinion, the parents should be given education or awareness first so that proper understanding about education be given to these young girls and boys. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The time you've given to help these girls is a big help. I hope that you achieve your objective on helping them.

Dear Regina,
Educating the girl child is so paramount today. But also a mega challenge. She is caught in web of obstacles from birth, because she is a girl. The answers are clear, but the action is hindered every step of the way. What will happen, and is happening is that entire cultures and nations will be left behind in development. The concept of development must be embraced by people no matter what. People that want to develop and embrace eventually do. The will of the people, over time and struggle is very powerful. For girl children, it begins with women supporting women. In the beginning and end that is what we have. Women must support women. Even when the men will not, which you can absolutely count on. If women support women, the girl child at least has a meager chance. With encouragement the chance grows. With more encouragement, she can blossom. But a woman has to let her know that she can. Women hold women back, as much and even more than men do. Mothers hinder their daughters out of cultural ignorance. Ultimately the world can change with women supporting women. But, unfortunately so many women would never do such a thing. If we as a gender could be on that same page, the world would be 100% different. The women birthing today need a bigger dream to shoot for, and allow their daughters to try.
Welcome to World Pulse sister. I'm so glad you are here. And so glad I stopped to chat with you.
Hugs...JoMarie
