Communication is vital to prove you exist

I have begun writing for a few women oriented online media outlets and for my own initiative of Mums and stories on social media.

The last couple of months time and again, I have been reminded by several women and young working women from rural India or those who are from underprivileged backgrounds but have now come up due to the woman's effort as a daughter or as a wife on how the ability to communicate can be vital for women if they choose to uplift their economic status.

India is a land that is home to several languages. When I chose to interview a strong individual who was a proud mum to a speech and hearing impaired Bharatnatyam dancer, she amazed me despite my inability to communicate with her in the language she knew, she made me realize that her daughter never has really spoken but has communicated through her dance form and through the written word in English.

Another case in example has been a daughter of a woman who used to be a sex worker has witnessed severe challenges including riots in her hometown, circumstances that didn't allow her to study in schools but her association with a relevant non profit organization has ensured she picked up communication skills to speak to anybody out there in par and communicate in English so that she can reach to a large number of people who are educated and would support her in her decisions. This young woman who had seen the family struggle for meals is now a teacher and comes across as a fiercely independent individual.

My learning’s so far has been that you might be in a cocoon or a shell and may face challenges that is minor or major. But unless one learns to connect and communicate with others or even share experiences to relevant people you will be left alone to sort out your dilemmas. One need make one's life as an open journal but it is important to connect and interact with a lot of people of various backgrounds to be aware of yourself and your ability to handle situations.

Both according to me are leaders in their own right who chose to stand up and let the world know they exist. It didn’t matter the language they knew. What mattered was how they showcased themselves through their work and self-confidence.
