...And then there was light - Worldpulse

My destiny is a mystery; as I stand, I search to release the power in me.
I grew up in a circle, protected from outside troubles, separated from the decay that is society.
But decay found me in my sleep, the deterioration removing life from my purity.
I looked for help I would not find, from people who could not understand my growing need.
Until I found the power of a pen, the power of the courageous woman, who has lived in shadows just like me.

I discovered Worldpulse while searching online for a community of women who stood up for what they believed in, a place where I can learn from others and develop myself. I had been searching for a while because I had felt like there had to be something wrong with me to try to change the world I saw which no one else did, but I knew that there were outstanding women out there.

I grew up the last of 5 kids from a widowed mother. I had watched my mother provide for me and my siblings through struggling. I had everything I could wish for; I lacked nothing. But every day, I felt less fulfilled. Being surrounded by strong women (an extended family of 11 females and 2 males), I had never understood the phrase ‘it’s a man’s world’; that was before I got into school. I looked around and realized I had not been shown the truth. that was when I felt what it was like to be a woman and have men leer at you, threaten you, and grope at you, belittle you, just because you were female and could do nothing about it.

That was also 10 years ago. Now I look for young girls who are going blindly through life facing the same struggle, who had no one to talk to who understood what it was like and no one to speak their minds. In trying to find the answer for us, I found Worldpulse. A community of strong women, bright women, courageous women, who have fought, are fighting, and will continue to fight to see that women all over the world do not live in silence. Who continue to shout so girls can know they are not alone. Finding worldpulse was a sign that I was not different from the masses, but unique among the few who had overcome. Finding worldpulse gave a way for me to find answer I would never find people to ask.

The voice of our future is the voice of a girl’s present. A way for me to share the experiences, challenges, successes and desires of millions of girls. No more will young girls suffer in silence and wish in vain that someone would hear their story. The voice of our future will be the voice of those girls who need to share who they are and what they aspire to be.
