Here I am, in my tarnished glory!

the beautiful Oregon forest

I’m 46 and a native Oregonian. I’m in love with the PNW (Pacific Northwest), from the emerald green forests to the wild coast, the mountains to the dry plains of the east. My spirituality  and identity are rooted in this place.

I’m also a survivor of child abuse, instability, poverty, and the deaths of both of my parents by the time I was 30. I’ve lived overseas twice (France and Turkey) and it fundamentally changed my worldview. I see how very similar we all are in our needs and our suffering, and I want to be someone who bridges our differences with empathy and compassion. I don’t have children or other family (one brother who barely talks to me).

I work to empower and uplift girls and women for my job, it’s also my spiritual calling. I am inspired and profoundly moved by the resilience and strength of girls, many of whom have already experienced sexism, violence, and other harm based on their gender. Being part of their lives and their growth is truly a gift.

I create mixed media and I love to be surrounded by creative people.

I’m often lonely and trying to find a way to connect more. I’m also pretty determined and opinionated and don’t easily give in to despair, even in the face of all we’re up against. I believe in hope. I believe in solidarity and sisterhood. And I definitely believe that it is women who will change the world.

Hi River,

Welcome to World Pulse! It sounds like you've found your home, dear:-) We're happy to have you in the community. I so hear you about being disconnected from your family. My family is not close, and I sometimes feel lonely. Although I have to say not since I've joined World Pulse. We're such a big family and every day I'm talking to one of my sisters that have way more idea, and concern, about what's going on with me that my bio family. I'm glad that you found us. I hope you soon feel this way about the community, too.

I'm very much looking forward to hearing more about your journey, passions, and mission. It almost sounds like you're an empath, too?

I would also encourage you to consider signing up to be a World Pulse Encourager, too, if you would like to make more of a difference, and find your voice more. It definitely has done this for me when I signed up three years ago. If you would like to learn more about it, and join (if you like), you can learn more about it here: https://www.worldpulse.com/encourager

Also, if you would like more support, or a creative friend, feel free to private message me:-)

Hello, River,

Welcome to World Pulse! It is such a joy that a new voice from the US is rising up!

Wow, you are a survivor of traumatic pasts. How strong, brave, and resilient you are. Kudos to you for remaining kindhearted after what was done to you. You are a beautiful woman.

You can connect with our sisters here. I encourage you to keep on writing. THat is a great catharsis and a way to process healing. That's what I did. There's this miraculous experience of sharing our vulnerability and receiving encouragement with empathy. It brings another level of healing.

Welcome again to our growing sisterhood. I'm looking forward to reading your stories!
