Accelerating Nomination for an Ambassador#SpiritAwards

When many things quickly rolled out during one year it seemed like I wasn't going to manage myself and work. I felt like I was going round and  round and not on a line like on a road. It felt like someone riding a bicycle stuck in the mud. I planned like I did many times and involved others in the process. What then was wrong with what I doing or we were doing? Was it the plan, focus or what? Somehow, I felt like there was something very wrong with my work. With the help of a volunteer we kept training the women and they enjoyed learning but whatever it was, time was not on our side.  The timelines were loosing out. whenever we had to implement what we talked about, that was not happening like it should. Again, the training was based on their need assessment. It took longer than I thought and expected. The impact was a challenge and yet I didn't wan't to move to training others before I could help women from this particular area who were in such different and difficult circumstances.

After doing my own evaluation and with the help of the training volunteers we do another evaluation with them. Something so big was missing in it. Yes, it was the men involvement/ participation. Although the activities seemed they  were for women only it lacked  the spice. The men participation.

Were the men ready to join women in this particular training?  These questions and others kept coming up as we discussed. Based on cultural norms/ traditions discussing some issues were not easy for women to do.  Going back home and trying to convince their husbands to agree on already laid and well stipulated cultural biased rules. It was not easy at all for them but again, they had to.

This is when I again gave a big tick to my own innovative program that i developed back in 2008 and today my organization's major program, Yes, this was it. It was then that I slowed down a bit to develop a workable strategy without affecting the previous while staying relevant. I also decided to explore other areas that I thought would help in the process.

As leaders we need to sometimes stop to reflect on ourselves and our work to be able to determine our next move. Where and when we feel we are not making progress. It does not mean that we do not plan or not focused but just trying a different strategy works very well.

As a Leader you know what you are doing well but when you feel you are not achieving what you want, stop and see what is workable for you. It could you that you are not using the right tools to help you in your work, it could be the plans. One other thing that we need to work on is reflecting on ourselves. That way, we give ourselves time to think better. Where you go wrong you stop and embrace that which you are doing right.

On World Pulse I met many sisters who are doing great things. They have stayed on for many years made good strides. One step at a time. We have wonderful Women Leaders on World Pulse who have decided this is the direction to go. They are reaching out to others and sharing what they have and still remain relevant to their daily work at their stations/ communities. World Pulse has given me a lot of supportive sisters. Though we come from diverse backgrounds and nations we are walking together and live together in one community -World Pulse. A place that makes all of us important. A caring space that gives hope to those who lost it. Reversing situations that could trigger others to commit suicide or taking others lives. It is a real healing space.

I have also grown as a Leader with new skills and knowledge and today I am a World Pulse Ambassador, a Featured Change-Maker, a Featured Storyteller, an Advanced Digital Change-Maker. With some stories featured on TIME Magazine. I also got Honorarium Awards. It gave me recognition that saw me be invited to International Forums. These were chances I got through World Pulse. I got visibility and today am motivated by that to share my stories and working hard. Reach out to many people in my community and continue in standing with girls and women. This is a wonderful platform that all women and men (to give support) globally should join.

One of the Leaders on World Pulse that has done a lot in terms of supporting me and many of you is my friend and sister Jill.
