Martha Mweetwa is a thirteen year old seventh grade student in Zambia. Through the Greight Foundation's Girl Mentor program I have had the privilege to mentor Martha for the last sixth months. We correspond through e-mail and I have learned that Martha is an earnest student who wants one day to be a teacher; she is especially interested in science. Martha is from a farm in central Zambia, but lives with her sister in Lusaka during the school year. In one of her e-mails, she asked if I could send her some books. In July, I sent off the books, holding my breath until I heard that they had been delivered to her. Martha has been preparing for her exams that take place this month, and I was so happy to hear that she could use one of the books to prepare for them. Knowing that I am helping a young girl along her journey to adulthood, one where she will feel empowered to use her voice to enrich the world, is very gratifying. I am thankful to the Girl Mentor program for giving me this opportunity.
