Women empowerment

My name is Ruby and I reside in a small town called Swartruggens in South Africa. In this town 90% of the youth have HIV/AIDS. There aren’t any organizations that help in reducing the number of the infected and affected. Women suffer the most, a high number of women are uneducated and unemployed. I started a business that helps and employs women. We mine slate stone and manufacture slate tiles for roofing, flooring, walling, cladding and paving. Every purchase feeds a family and empowers women. Our website is www.simplystone.co.za

All the women who work for me are also going to school to get an education. We are planning on building an HIV/AIDS center in the community with health professionals to educate people about the illness and providing care.

Hello my dear,
You are very welcome to world pulse and congrats on your first story.
That is really a high rate in your country. Technically, within 10 girls 9 are infected. This is so sad. Do you know if the authorities are putting some measures in place to check this high growth rate? Are you working with an already NGO or you are trying to initiate one?
Thanks for sharing this progressive info from your country.

Hi Lisbeth, I’m trying to initiate a NGO. There aren’t any in this town and I’m trying to use the resources I have to start one by selling slate. Instead of asking for handouts we are working for the money. www.simplystone.co.za

My dear,
It's a very great idea to initiate. With hard work all is possible. I loved your website you got nice slates.
Best wishes and keep us posted.

Hello Ruby,

Welcome to World Pulse:-) Thanks for sharing your sad, but inspiring, too, post and website. I'm looking forward to seeing more posts from you and learning more about what your awesome business, mission and goals are.

Let us know how we can help you and your mission to empower women, and also if you're interested in any collaborations.

Also, you may want to look regularly at the World Pulse "Resources" pages to see if there are any funding opportunities for you to start your NGO: https://www.worldpulse.com/my-pulse/resources.

Hope you have a great day, and week!

Hello dear:-)

You're very welcome.

Great to hear that you're interested in collaborations. I meant collaborating with sisters that have similar goals, mission and interests to yourself, but you can certainly tell me what your most pressing needs are as far as goals and/or collaborators are concerned. You can also look on the World Pulse "community" page where you can search by country, interests, and badges. That's at this link:
https://www.worldpulse.com/my-pulse/community

Alternatively, you can do a general search in the search box at the top, right of every page for "HIV" or "empowerment" and/or put in your country, or just on its own, too, depending on if you're open to collaborators outside your country.

I hope this is helpful. You can also private message me, if you need support or further clarification.

Welcome Rubina and congratulation for your good work, it is not easy but it is a good gesture as we all know the stigma of HIV/AIDS in other communities and areas. May God gives you strength and guidance to fulfill this programme. Please look at the The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) HIV and AIDS Community Grants Program which provides direct funding to community based organizations in the districts with the highest HIV burden in South Africa, that are providing services within HIV testing and counseling, HIV prevention and/or community-based care and support for people living with HIV (PLHIV). Also try to engage with Aids foundation South Africa to be able to link you to funders, they are also an NGO company running the same programme. Keep well and God bless.

Hello Ruby,
Welcome to the Pulse and thank you for the work you do.
Empowering women, especially those considered or found in a disadvantaged position sure does go a long way.

More grace to what you do.
You have a beautiful website.
