women discrimination mostly in rural areas

Women in Nepal face the discrimination from the womb. It has been a culture to dominate women in our country. Women face discrimination particularly in rural areas where religious and cultural tradition, lack of education, and ignorance of the law remain severe impediment to their exercise of basic rights such as the right to vote or to hold property in their own names. Since Nepal is a patriarchal society, the birth of son is more valuable than the birth of a daughter. In our society, men are the most powerful members. This is because, in our religious beliefs that only son can help give salvation to his ancestors. In Hinduism, it is belief that only son can perform “shraddha” a funeral rites that pay homage to the dead. For this reason people in our society prefer son than daughter. In rural areas, people often abort the pregnancy for the reason if they give the birth to a girl. Such kinds of practices are still prevailing in the rural areas and this kind of discrimination may persist throughout a woman life’s time. Traditionally, women are taken as to do the household works only. They are meant only for to do domestic purposes. Their duties are to care the children, her husband, her family and household chores. They are treated as their salve. They don’t have the rights to their property also; in fact husband is woman’s property. All the rights and authority goes in the hand of male to the property. Women are often become the victim of domestic violence also. They are treated badly and misbehaved also. Moreover, when their husband died, then they have to burn themselves with her husband. It was kind of rites in the past history. So women were dominated from the past history. But now it’s rare to find such kind of rites. But still women are not getting their rights that they had to get by birth as similar to male. The future of rural areas of Nepal is far from bright and promising. The majority of people are uneducated and under privileged. But now it seems that it is more controlled comparing to past. Women has demanded for gender equity and equality, equal rights on parental property affirmative affirmation and positive discrimination, stop violence against women and representation on decision making position .
