Safecity in virtual and online spaces

On 23rd March, Breakthrough India @INBreakthrough conducted a about safety of women in online/ virtual spaces. With a week full of news about Cambridge Analytica stealing the data of general population, we all have been reminded that social media isn’t the most reliable platform really! This much discussed and much needed topic was analysed during the tweetchat. The chat included the statistics of online harassment of women. The topics ranged from online bullying to online sexual harassment. Participants also talked of trolls (which are, in a way the most used tools for spreading the agenda of sexism nowadays). During the tweetchat, participants came up with solutions to prevent online harassment. The solutions ranged from awareness about online harassment to strict law enforcement.

A tweetchat by Breakthrough India!

Hi Safecity. Thanks for sharing your story about your tweetchat on March 23rd. I knew that social media apps were gathering personal information and weren't that safe, but I didn't know there was a whole upheaval about it recently?! I find it scary what information is gathered about everyone and how easy it is for anyone to find information out about pretty much everyone.

Hi Safety,
I am just now coming across this piece of online work that you'd last March. I love discovering your work. Congrats on a successful tweet chat on such an important subject. How great that sharing ideas for better safety happened.

This is impressive indeed! Bullying and intimation on social media worldwide is a huge problem.

I'll take a look at the Tweetchat and i want to thank you for bringing this to our attention.
