Engaging Men and Boys to Achieve Gender Equality

On Friday, 24th August, The Gender Lab @TheGenderLab conducted a tweetchat on the importance of involving and engaging men and boys to achieve gender equality.

The chat began by first asking the audience to share their understanding of Toxic Masculinity and instances from their lives when they were affected by it. Many of them shared their experiences leading to the question of how the concepts of ‘physical strength’ and ‘power’ which are stereotypically masculine affect their life and to what degree. We then went on to talk about ways through which positive masculinity can help in women’s economic empowerment and ended the chat by thinking of solutions for achieving gender equality by advocating positive masculinity.

Hi Safecity,

Thanks for sharing the synopsis of this tweetchat. This sounds like an interesting one, too.

Dear Safecity,

You are leading the way once again by holding this conference...through tweet chat!...on such an important subject. I hope to see more and more occasions being made available for men and boys to explore what is expected of them as "men" and to create a different culture in which violence is not acceptable nor expected.

Congrats once again,
Tam
