The Internet as a Public Space

On Friday, 31st August, Naina Jha @27nainajha conducted a tweetchat on the internet as a public space.

The chat began by questioning whether the online space is a platform for positive communication and whether the internet can be a space for reporting errant behaviour, and specifically, sexual harassment, through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The audience was asked to share their examples of using the internet to report atrocities and the possible issues in reporting such negative behaviour like trolling, cyber crime, stalking, sexual harassment etc. Bringing the chat to an end, Naina asked the audience for solutions in ensuring the online spaces is used efficiently to report sexual harassment and reduce it.
