Safecity at Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2018

The theme for the Global Media and Information Literacy Week (24-31 Oct) 2018 by UNESCO was Media and Information Literate Cities: Voices, Powers, and Change Makers.

The 8th Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) Conference (Oct. 24-25) was held in Kaunas and the Youth Agenda Forum (Oct. 26) in Riga.

“The annual Global MIL Week activities and the feature conference are important opportunities for stakeholders globally to review and celebrate the progress achieved towards the process of “MIL for all”. Global MIL Week also enables connections and sharing of creative projects, the latest research, new ideas, and information across countries and stakeholders involved in MIL, and in print, screen-based and digital media.”

Our Director and COO, Supreet K Singh, was one of the speakers at the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2018 Feature Conference (24-25 October) in Kaunas, Lithuania where she spoke about the work we do at Safecity, encouraging people to share their stories of sexual abuse in public spaces on our crowdmap and thus using the information to create safer public spaces that are accessible to all, especially women and girls. She also spoke about how important it is to provide a safe ecosystem for women and girls in order for them to reach their potential and have secure inclusive sustainable cities.

We received a standing ovation for the work that we do and are extremely honoured and grateful!
